Breast Cancer Awareness Necklace

My weekend started Friday because of a big snow storm here in Maine. So I stayed home from work. I took that opportunity to work on some pendants.  It all started with this Breast Cancer Awareness one. I was asked to do 4 necklace, and earring that would go with the set.  I posted it on my business Facebook page then on a few group pages just to show what I was working on. Next think I know I'm getting more orders for it.

I then posted a pick of the set all done. Then I got even more orders!

The cool part is I'm taking part of the sales and adding to our fund raiser for Cans For A Cure with Q97.9 That we do every year!!

I usually start selling a Breast Cancer Necklace in September but now I will do it all year! The picture below are the ones I sold last year.

Oh ya I forgot to say I took Monday off to because of another snow storm! Tomorrow I have to go back to my day job :(

I hope your weekend was as good as mine!

Home Made Photo Booth

I went on Pinterest to see how to make a homemade photo booth. This is the picture I found and worked off from.
I found all the items I would need right in my basement!!  I use an empty box ( found at work a while ago with intent of making this project), tissue paper, glue sticks, and a box cutter,
Cutting the box wasn't to hard. You just have to make sure you don't squash the box while trying to cut the cardboard and not your fingers!!
I cut the tissue paper to the right size. I used a glue stick to hold the paper in place. Very easy as long as you don't have glue on your fingers while trying to place the paper onto the cardboard.
I wanted to have a continuous piece of white paper from the top of the back to the bottom front, but didn't have a piece big enough :(
I learned that you want to have the lights close to the box for the light to go through the tissue paper.  The light on the right isn't one you want to use unless your cold and want to start a nice little fire in you work space!! So with that said, I will be going out to buy new lights at some point.
I will see if this works for me. They do sell kits that break down easy, and store better then a box. Plus you don't have to worry about ripping the tissue paper.  So I also might look into that at some point.

I don't care for how the photo looks yellow. I was hoping for a bright white.
The close up wasn't to bad.
This is one of the set ups.

Short and Sweet

The story of 2015 has just begun.  I was hoping to start it off on a good foot, but have fallen onto my knees. Only 15 days into a year of possibilities has been hard to take. I have lost two people who brought such life to everyone around them. It has really brought me down to a really low feeling that I don't like. I know they would not want to see anyone at such a loss.

So I turn the page in the book of 2015 and choose to love the memories,  and carry on their smile through mine! Life should be about making people happy and enjoying life and everything it has to offer.

Happy New Year

Crazy to think we are starting off another New Year already. 2014 had its good times and bad! December was not one I want to remember. A door closed that would have been nice to keep open (John's job!), but I feel there is a better door to walk through for John, hopefully not into! :) . I have a positive feeling about 2015 for us.

What better way to start off the New Year then donating! My niece Hope and I have been growing our hair outfor months.... heck years for me, to donate.

We both have been waiting for this day for a long time. With my line of work, I could never wear in down. So most of the time its in a bun.

The past four time I donated my hair, I would sent it to Locks of Love. Well this year I'm sending it to Pantene Beautiful Lengths.

I found out a lot of info about Locks of Love vs Pantene Beautiful Lengths. I found this page that gets right to the point!!

Jess wrote:

I had never heard of the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program, but I was happy to learn that it is an actual partnership between Pantene and the American Cancer Society, the largest non-profit health organization committed to saving lives from every cancer and improving the quality of life for people facing the disease. So far, Pantene has donated 24,000 free real-hair wigs to the American Cancer Society’s wig banks, which distribute wigs to cancer patients across the country.

All the other info she wrote sold me on going to Pantene!

Hope and I went to Panache Hair Salon this afternoon!

So in my eyes we are starting the year off on the right foot!

Bad Timing!

I'm at a loss this holiday season!  Just when things are looking up! With all of our ducks in a row,  a big ass wave drowns them all.  Friday, my husband was let go at his job. He was the bread winning of the two of us. Last year we finally broke down and bought a newer van thinking he was all set at his job of 19 years!! Mine 11 years! Now if he is unable to find something soon we are going to have to make some big changes. Ones I'm just not ready for. We have worked so hard to get where we are today.

This has only been 3 days and I will get over my little pity party. We have our health which I'm thankful for, but no health insurance.  We have a home, I pray we can keep!, but no matter what, I will always have my family. Where ever they are, we will call home.

I pray this is one of those things that happen for a reason! Like a better job that pays more and cares for their employees!  That would be nice!  In 10 years we will look back at this moment and laugh!

New Displays and Items

As you can see I did not write the other day like I said I would. This pesky thing called "life" keeps getting in the way.  I have finally found time to sit down in a quiet room to be able to blog.  As I sit here I can hear Canadian geese fly over the house. The weather outside is getting cold, which is making me stay inside where it nice and warm, allowing me to working on jewelry.  I have been getting many custom orders to do, like this Breast Cancer Awareness Necklace.

The next two trees are sun catchers that I made for two people who helped me out during Cans For A Cure in October.

These are another Christmas order. Red trees of life with a cardinals.

While I have been busy with Christmas orders, I have also been making displays for the Secret Garden where I sell my jewelry.  I took an old picture frame painted it white then scuffed it to make it shabby chic. I then added wallpaper on the back where you would put the picture. I then dug through my drawers of knobs to find three antique glass knobs to hold and display my necklaces.

For my next display I went for a walk in the woods with my dog for Gracie.

I found branches the right size for my display. I cut them and brought them home.

I spray painted them white.

Next I had to go through my extra pieces of wood to find small blocks that were different sizes.  I then sanded them down, nailed and glued them together. I then drilled holes in the tops for the branches to go in.

I painted them white, scuffed and wax them with clear wax.

The displays are now done for The Secret Garden.

Here they are in their new home!
I hope everyone one is having a great weekend.
